Who We Are & What We Do

Holy Grounds began as a heartfelt vision, brought to life through a generous bequest and a strong partnership between Anglicare WA, St George’s Cathedral, and the Anglican Diocese of Perth. Together, we set out to activate Cathedral Square, creating a vibrant community space where people can connect and belong.

Our mission is to tackle loneliness and social isolation by offering shared experiences, inclusive activities, and a warm cafe atmosphere that welcomes people from all walks of life.

Our team of passionate staff and dedicated volunteers works together to create opportunities for skill-building, confidence, and meaningful connections. Collaboration is at the core of Holy Grounds and the supportive community we nurture.

Every cup of coffee served and every activity hosted contributes to making Cathedral Square a safer, more inclusive space - a hub for connection at the heart of Boorloo / Perth.

Our Mission at Holy Grounds is to create a safe and
inclusive hub in the heart of the City of Perth that fosters

community connections and challenges isolation.

Our Goals at Holy Grounds are:
To support people to create social connections and learn new skills.

To contribute to the community by a) creating a space where people feel safe and connected and b) by providing opportunities for people to develop social connections through shared activities.

And to create a financially sustainable social enterprise model.

A place where good coffee sparks great conversation,

and community grows through connection.
Whether you're dropping in for your morning brew,
joining a lunchtime board game session,
or simply seeking a friendly face - you're always welcome here.

Huge thanks to Xander for your generous support!

Known as red beaks, this uniquely Western Australian orchid grows
a single broad leaf and showcases up to eight vivid red and white blooms.

Its blooms are usually triggered by the aftermath of a hot summer fire.

A gentle reminder that even after seasons of loneliness and isolation,
beauty still finds a way to bloom.

It takes a village - and we’re lucky to have some pretty amazing humans in ours.

Say hi to Sophia, our talented barista, who brings warmth, creativity, and the best flat whites in town. She’s not just brewing coffee - she’s brewing connection. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, Sophia makes everyone feel seen and welcome.

And here’s Chris, one of our original volunteers who’s been with us since day one. He’s a calm and caring presence, often found behind the machine making a cracking coffee and taking the time to connect with whoever walks through the door. Chris reminds us that it’s the quiet gestures - a hello, a shared story - that make this place what it is.

In June, we were joined for one week by Jason, a work experience student, who jumped right in with curiosity and grew his confidence quickly. In just a few days, he became part of the crew - showing initiative, kindness, and professionalism well beyond his years. It was a pleasure to have him with us!

At Holy Grounds, we’re more than a cafe - we’re a collective of stories, strengths, and shared purpose. Come say hello. You never know who you’ll meet.
